Chris joined 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in May 2012. He was most recently the morning news anchor at KIRO in Seattle, WA. His career in television journalism has taken him across the country and back with stops in Seattle, Orlando, Omaha, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls.
Chris is from Armour, South Dakota and a graduate of Huron University in South Dakota. His broadcasting career started at a tiny radio station in Huron where he was a student athlete by day and a radio DJ at night.
Chris was one of the first journalists in the world to arrive in Japan after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. He traveled overseas with the National Guard to cover the start of the War on Terror. Chris has won numerous awards over the years and played a part in capturing a coveted Edward R. Murrow Award for his former station KIRO7. However, the only Emmy in the Egert household belongs to his wife, who was a news producer at WFTV in Orlando.
Chris and his wife have two active children and a rescued American Bulldog named Sarge. Chris loves music, food, and an occasional locally brewed beer.
